When God Speaks - Hebrew 1:1-2

  • PDF

When God speaks, situations change, victory is assured for his people. When he speaks, he does a lot of wonders. In Gen. 1:1-2, God spoke into the darkness of this world and life came into it. Is there any that is still in the camp of sin and darkness? God is ever ready to speak life/light into your life. Does your life seem empty even though you have all it takes to be comfortable in this world? You need God to speak his fullness into you.

God speaks saying different things to us. He speaks;

  • Convicting us (Gen. 3:9-14 in the Garden of Eden)

  • Commanding us (Matt. 28:19 the great commission)

  • Correcting us (2 Sam. 12:1-13)

  • Commending us (Luke 3:22 Jesus being commended)

  • Warning us (Mark 13:5-23)

  • Favouring us (Esther 6:1-2)

When God speaks it can either be in a gentle or loud voice. It all depends on the situation and the people involved. God speaks in response to our prayers; when we meditate and are in tune with him.

The question is when last you did hear from him? When last did he address a situation of your life and you knew it was him?

God speaks directly to us and sometimes, he chooses to use other means:

  • The case of a donkey speaking to Prophet Balaam
  • Nathan the Prophet to King David
  • Samuel to Saul
  • Ministers of the gospel in our time
  • Children, colleagues (believers/unbelievers) as it pleases him
  • His word which is the ultimate

A sensitive conscience and spirit goes a long way to help us hear God. Don’t kill your conscience through acts of disobedience!

God also speaks to our enemies or those who are set to do us evil. He speaks to confuse, rebuke and warn them. For instance, the case of Abimelec h and Sarah, Abraham’s wife:  Gen. 20:3, ‘God said to him, thou art a dead man for the woman whom thou hast taken is but a man’s wife’.  That is God fighting for Abraham. He is still doing the same today, fighting for us and restoring that which the enemy has stolen.

In 2 Kings 19:6-7, God said, ‘Behold I will send a blast upon him (the enemy) and he shall hear a rumour and return to his own land and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his land.

God’s voice really makes a difference in life’s situations!

There is always a difference between a child of God who hears from and obeys God, and the one who does not hear at all. Blessed is the child that listens to the father's instructions.
